I liked the first one better. This book seems to be tackling Pern politics between the Oldtimers and modern Weyr ways… That part is actually fascinating as are all the plot twists… Thread is shifting how it falls, fire-lizards are found for the first time (they sound so cute!!), etc. I think it is the way she wrote this one… jumping back and forth between the Weyrs and giving different perspectives on what is happening from different points of view…

This was as aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawesome as Paul said it was… I plan on reading the rest of the series in order of publication, not the first trilogy and then the second. I found it a slow read but I think it was because this week has been insane and I havent had time to sit down for a good read. Also, this introduced me to a lot of stuff… I am sure the next books will go a bit faster…
