Maggie’s Soap Nuts

Products 1 Comment »

I got some of these for Christmas…

From their website, maggiespureland.com

Soap Nuts are the dried fruit of the Chinese Soapberry tree (Sapindus
mukorrosi
), similar to the lychee. A long time ago, local folks in the
South East Asia figured out that when the nuts get wet, they release
saponin, a natural cleaner, making them great for washing clothes!

While the nuts themselves don’t smell the greatest (have kind of a sour smell), they didn’t make my clothes smell like that. They got the job done!! Pretty cool… we normally use Meyers which is eco-friendly and it smells wonderful. However it is pretty expensive!

Arbonne…

So I found this poopless (there really isnt a better way to say that) mascara from Arbonne… they offer a line of vegan products which are, obviously, not tested on animals or made with any animal byproducts. You have to purchase them through consultants. However, some consultants seem to have their own arbonne.com page you can purchase through. So I went through and created a client profile and got a client number. I went to purchase the $22 mascara… painful because the mascara I normally use costs $3.00. Then I had to pay a UPS Ground fee which was a minimum of $7.25… from a consultant that is here in Austin. I saved my shopping cart and am still mulling over it. I might also try contacting my consultant to see if there is perhaps a less expensive shipping fee… That was a little steep.

I currently am using Urban Decay eyeshadow. I almost purchased it online but found out I could get it at an Ulta here in Austin. They have an entire vegan line of cosmetics. I have only tried the eyeshadow as I don’t really wear that much makeup.

Besides mascara and eyeshadow, I use a tinted moisturizer with SPF from Kiss My Face. The first (and only) time I have purchased it was at Whole Foods.

More on products later…
