Aledo High School…

Internets, Tid Bit No Comments »

So I watched Apollo 13 last night… I had seen it before but it had been a long time and Paul had it on the Xbox so I thought… why not? As usual during a movie, I am on Wikipedia and IMDB sites learning more about the movie and the actors in it.

I vaguely remembered hearing a rumor when I was in high school that Bill Paxton went to Aledo High School… so I went to his Wikipedia page. There it was:

Paxton was born in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of Mary Lou (née Gray) and John Lane Paxton, who was a businessman, lumber wholesaler, museum executive, and occasional actor.[1] Paxton was raised in his mother’s Catholic religion.[2][3][4] Paxton attended Aledo High School in Aledo, Texas and then Texas State University (called Southwest Texas State at that time) in San Marcos, TX and then moved to Los Angeles and began working for director Roger Corman as a set designer on his films.

I was surprised to see that Aledo High School had a wikipedia page… we were pretty small as high schools go and my experience there was completely underwhelming. The fact that Bill Paxton, an impressively mediocre actor, went to Aledo High School pretty much sums up the major problem with Aledo High School: the music and theatre departments were fighting over pennies while we kept buying new things for the football team and building new stadiums for them to knock about in.

There are a few people I remain in contact with (shout out to Elisabeth, Jared and Jeremy) but, for the most part, spent my time waiting for the next big thing to happen. That, as it turns out, consisted in making the big move to Fort Worth, TX (30ish miles away) to go to college at TCU.

Anyway so I went to the Aledo High School page… it seemed pretty up-to-date. Even had a section on notable alumni, which I noticed did NOT include Bill Paxton, but some lame evangelical whose daughter works for the Texas Republican Party, and some band that looks like Hanson in their Wikipedia picture. So I went ahead and updated it for them. I will include it here, as I don’t expect it to last too long…

Notable alumni

Doing something like this reminds me of my high school days when I would throw a cup of ice in a busy hallway, wear annoyingly neon yellow Umbro shorts with Pokemon t-shirts, wear my hear in Leia buns, drive through ditches and gardens on a regular basis, and generally wreak havoc to be purposefully annoying to everyone around me because I found it funny. I loved it. Feel this is a bit of a throwback.

I wonder how long it will last..

UPDATE: Holy crap… just had to add this to this post.
